SERVER Database Cluster Storage Expansion – Oracle RAC

Summary

The Oracle RAC cluster hosting the student information system (SIS) has reached 82% storage utilization. Twenty terabytes of additional SAN-backed LUNs will be provisioned and added to the ASM disk group during this window.

Technical Details

• Current ASM disk group: DATA (48 TB total, 39.4 TB used)
• New LUNs: 4 × 5 TB from NetApp AFF array
• ASM rebalance will run automatically post-addition (estimated 90 min)

• No application downtime expected — ASM rebalance runs online
• Brief I/O latency increase (< 5%) during rebalance is possible

Risk

Low. The operation is additive only; no existing data is moved until rebalance completes. Rollback consists of dropping the new LUNs before rebalance finishes.
